Book Description

"Meacham transports the reader from the early 'gentleman amateurs' to the recent phase of 'rescue archaeology', assembling the diverse findings to chronicle Hong Kong's rich cultural heritage. A compelling read, and indispensable reference work." -- Raynor Shaw, geologist, travel guide writer, and co-author of Hong Kong Landscapes: Shaping the Barren Rock

- Provides the only up-to-date summary of Hong Kong archaeology in English.
- Lavishly illustrated with the sites, features and artifacts uncovered since the 1920s.
- Written by William Meacham, an expert in the archaeology of Hong Kong. Among his many field projects, the largest was the 16-month survey and rescue excavation at Chek Lap Kok prior to the construction of the new airport.

William Meacham is an archaeologist specializing in South China. Since 1980, he has been Honorary Research Fellow at the Centre of Asian Studies, the University of Hong Kong. He was editor of the Hong Kong Archaeological Society (1973-85) and chairman of the society (1985-96).
